Fit City in the Park

The Tualatin Chamber of Commerce Fit City committee are excited to introduce Fit City In The Park, starting June 2015!!

New to exercising? Never Tried Zumba? Looking for a fun activity for the whole family? Come Join us for Fit City In The Park!!! Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday June-August 2015 from 7pm to 8pm the Fit City Committee and Local Fitness professionals will be holding FREE community fitness classes at Tualatin Commons Park by the lake.

*All classes will be held from 7pm to 8pm in Tualatin Commons Park

June 17th – Yoga with Kristin from 24 hour Fitness (*bring your own yoga mat)

July 1st – Body Boot Camp with LA Fitness

July 15th – Body Weight Workout with Chris from Forge Fitness

August 5th – Plyolates with ClubSport

August 19th – Zumba with Latosha

*water will be provided at the events

Crawfish Crawl 5k Run/Walk

Description: Annual Crawfish Crawl 5k Run/Walk.
Flat, fast, and friendly! The Crawfish Crawl 5K has always been regarded as a fast walking and running course and this year is no different. In fact, The Crawfish Crawl 5K will use the new pedestrian overpass from Tualatin City Park to Durham City Park and Cook Park. The majority of the course is on a closed bike path. The Tualatin Commons Lake provides a refreshing and festive start/finish area for the race. Race starts at 8am sharp!

Regatta Run

Title: Regatta Run
Location: Tualatin Community Park
Description: This 5K run/walk will take place in Tualatin on Saturday, October 15th in conjunction with the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta. Online registration is now open.
The race was created in honor of Corporal Matthew Lembke, who lost his life from wounds sustained in Afghanistan. To celebrate Matt’s character and service, a scholarship fund has been created in his name. Each year, it will be awarded to one or more Tualatin High School graduating seniors.
Become a sponsor! This event is a great opportunity to remember Matt’s life, and support our graduating seniors while increasing goodwill and market awareness for your business.
Following the event, there will be a pancake breakfast served for a donation at the VFW Matthew Lembke Hall on the corner of SW Boones Ferry Rd. and Lower Boones Ferry Rd.

The Eurand CF Cycle for Life

Description: Join us for the inaugural Eurand CF Cycle for Life in Yamhill, Oregon on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Choose either the 30-mile or 65.9-mile (metric century!) route.
The Eurand CF Cycle for Life is a fully supported journey with rest stops every 10-12 miles, support-and-gear (SAG) vehicles, on-site medical services, lunch along the route and much more. Participants and their guests will come together for this signature cycling event through the Willamette Valley Wine Country, taking in the scenery as they cycle for a cure.

Afterwards, CF Cycle for Life participants will celebrate at a post-ride lunch and more! Registration:
$25 registration prior to October 1st
$35 registration October 1st – October 16th
$45 registration on event day (as space allows)

** $150 minimum fundraising due on or before October 17th, in addition to registration fees

Portland ranks No. 5 for fitness

Portland Business Journal

The Portland area was ranked as the country’s fifth most-fit city, according to the American Fitness Index produced by the American College of Sports Medicine.

The region’s strengths and advantages included:

• Lower death rate for cardiovascular disease.

• More acres of parkland per capita.• High number of primary health care providers per capita.• A lower percentage or smokers, and a lower percentage of the population with diabetes.

• More farmers markets per capita.

 Opportunities and challenges included:

 • Higher death rate for diabetes.

• Fewer recreation centers and swimming pools per capital.

• Lower level of state requirements for physical education classes.

 The top five cities were Washington, D.C., at No. 1, followed by Boston, Minneapolis and Seattle. Oklahoma City ranked No. 50, the lowliest city.
